1. Food stains
— Fresh beverage, sauce or fruit stains can be removed with warm water and a small amount of mild detergent. Blot the stain with a paper towel, apply the solution and rub with a soft-bristled brush.
— Dried stains can be attempted by wetting them with warm water and applying a small amount of vinegar. Leave it on for a few minutes and then rub with a brush.
2. Grease and oil stains
— Talcum powder or cornstarch is effective for removing grease stains. Sprinkle a thick layer on the stain, leave it on for a few hours or overnight, and then vacuum.
— For stale stains, you can use paint thinner or nail polish remover. Apply a small amount to the stain, let it sit for a while and blot with a paper towel.
3. Red wine or juice stains
— You can try to remove fresh stains by blotting them with a paper towel and then applying some salt to them. Leave the salt on for 15 to 20 minutes and then vacuum.
— For stale stains, you can use a solution of warm water and a small amount of bleach. Apply the solution to the stain, leave it on for a few minutes, and then blot with a paper towel.
4. Removing fibers and lint
— You can use a sticky roller or a small piece of tape to remove fibers and lint from carpet and rugs. Gently roll the roller over the surface and the fibers will stick to it.
— For a deeper clean, you can use a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment. Move the nozzle along the carpet pile and it will pick up accumulated lint and fibers.
5. Periodic deep cleaning
— To keep your carpets and rugs clean and fresh, deep clean them every few months. Prepare a solution of warm water and a small amount of carpet detergent or vinegar.
— Apply the solution to the carpet or rug and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Then scrub with a stiff-bristled brush to allow the solution to penetrate deeper into the pile.
— Afterward, rinse the surface with clean, warm water and blot with paper towels or industrial moisture absorbent material.
Regular cleaning will help remove various types of dirt, including food, grease, red wine or juice stains, as well as accumulated fibers and lint. Removing these contaminants in a timely manner will prevent them from embedding deep into the carpeting, making them much more difficult to remove in the future.
