1. Sticky tape
Sticky fly trap tape is easy to find at the hardware store, but it almost always contains ingredients that are harmful to humans and animals. Reminds: such traps are easy to make with your own hands, from ordinary paper tapes, starch and sugar syrup. Why starch? The sticky layer should remain viscous enough for flies’ feet to get stuck in it.
2. A plastic bag of water
It’s hard to believe, but plastic bags of water are the true champions of fly repelling. As strange as the idea may seem to you, millions of people around the world — including market vendors — regularly pour water into clear bags and hang them in doorways and windows. Thousands of hostesses claim that after this, flies can be forgotten about. The mysterious phenomenon has not yet received a scientific explanation. Perhaps the faceted vision “turns” a bag of water in the likeness of a huge web, near which even the most courageous fly will not risk to fly. According to another hypothesis, the play of glare in the water creates “inexplicable illusions” that deter flies.
3. Lemongrass spray.
Want to not only chase away flies, but also fill the air in your home with an invigorating aroma? Take a small spray bottle, add 10-12 drops of lemongrass essential oil and 4 tablespoons of hot water. Now give it a good shake to make the magic happen! Spray the mixture near windows and doors, spray directly on insects, or just take a couple of “spritzes” to cheer yourself up — because any essential oil has an aromatherapeutic effect.
4. Clove Power
Another scent that flies can’t stand is the scent of cloves. In addition, they dislike lemon! We offer you an elegant decorative composition that will decorate the table, sanitize the air and get rid of uninvited guests. Cut a lemon in half and each half of the lemon is studded with cloves, 12-15 pieces for each half. Or place cloves in cloth bags and hang them in the most “occupied” areas.
5. Apple cider vinegar against fruit flies
The aromas of fermentation attract flies better than the ripest fruit, and against natural apple cider vinegar these little guys just can’t resist. Simply take a glass jar, and in the lid make a few holes with an awl (or use a small funnel instead of a lid). Lightly heat some apple cider vinegar, pour it into the jar, close the lid (or insert the funnel) and leave it in the kitchen for a day.
6. Natural lavender oil repellent
Prepare this repellent to get rid of flies, fleas, gnats, bugs, or and even whiteflies! Put a few drops of natural lavender essential oil on a sponge, put it in an aluminum jar, close the lid, and leave it for 24 hours. Then take the jar to the most fly-loving corner of your home and open the lid. After application, add a few more drops of lavender oil.
Instead of lavender, you can also use citronella, eucalyptus, peppermint and lemongrass oils. These oils should be added to the alcohol in a ratio of 1:3.
7. Fragrant herbs
A few pots of live fragrant herbs such as basil, lavender, laurel, mint, peppermint, sawdust, velvet and wormwood will also help the cause. Smelling the scent of these plants will make even a determined fly think twice about stopping by your fire. In addition, many of these plants have antibacterial, antiviral properties and revitalize the atmosphere in the house. If you don’t have fresh plants, use elegant bunches of dried ones.
